Position Summary:
The University of Idaho Extension is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant, tenure track Associate Professor or a tenured Associate Professor to serve the 4-H/Youth Development-Agriculture & Natural Resources-Community Development program in cooperation with the Coeur d'Alene tribe along with other tribal community resource partners including the USDA NIFA. The position is located in Benewah County and will be housed in Plummer, Idaho as part of the Coeur d'Alene Tribal offices. This is a grant-funded position through the Federally Recognized Tribal Extension Program (FRTEP).
The Extension Educator will provide overall leadership and organization for educational programs in 4-H Youth and adult volunteer development on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation in collaboration with public schools and other partners in the area. In addition, the educator will provide programming for Agriculture and Natural Resources with an emphasis on sustainable agricultural production and profitability within the Coeur d'Alene Reservation. The educator will collaborate with community and economic development partners in programs related to agriculture, natural resources, and youth life-skill development.
In cooperation with University of Idaho Specialists, Tribal Advisory committees, Extension Educators, and governmental agencies, the educator will plan, develop and implement educational programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources emphasizing sustainable agricultural production and profitability. The educator will, with direction from Tribal Advisory Committees, develop and facilitate collaborative educational programs that meet clientele needs (90%). The educator will evaluate and report program impacts and will provide technology transfer from the University of Idaho to clientele and will provide Agricultural and Natural Resource expertise to the Coeur d'Alene Reservation. The Educator will publish in high-quality refereed journals, peer-reviewed Extension publications, and will present at professional conferences, and submit proposals and secure funding to support this scholarly and creative work (5%). The Educator will serve on district, college, and university-wide committees, in other community leadership roles, and with professional organizations, and will build/maintain positive relationships with stakeholders (5%). Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree related to education or youth development, agriculture, natural resources or related disciplines appropriate to the position is required by date of hire.
- Must currently be an associate professor to qualify for associate rank and be tenured to qualify for tenured associate professor.
- Experience designing innovative and educational programs in response to local needs; implementing programs and evaluating their outcomes.
- Experience working directly with youth and adult audiences and collaborating with community organizations to provide educational experiences to diverse youth and underserved audiences.
- Experience with teaching, problem-solving, communication, conflict management, relationship building, and leadership development.
- Experience working in a team, providing leadership for Extension programming, and marketing and promoting the 4-H program.
- Experience communicating with diverse groups. (verbal, written, listening, public speaking/presentation skills).
- Experience with recruiting, teaching, and managing volunteers.
- Experience with using technology/various computer programs in a work setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extension experience in 4-H Youth Development, or applicable professional experience.
- Knowledge of Native/Tribal programs
- Experience in fundraising, grantsmanship, and cost recovery efforts.
- Experience working with mass media (TV, Internet, radio, newspapers).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Valid driver's license.
- Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule (i.e. participate in evening and weekend programs.)
